First Session FAQs
Do I need to prepare anything before my first session?
You’ll receive intake paperwork to complete before we meet. Beyond that, there’s no need to prepare anything specific. You’re welcome to jot down a few thoughts or questions if that feels helpful, but it’s absolutely okay to come as you are.
What happens during the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know one another. We’ll review confidentiality, talk about what brought you in, and explore what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share everything at once — we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.
How long is a session?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length.
Is therapy in person or online?
We offer both secure telehealth and in-person sessions, depending on what you’ve scheduled. If your session is virtual, you’ll receive a secure link by email along with text and email reminders. If your session is in person, you’ll be welcomed into our office and shown to a private therapy room.
What if I feel nervous or unsure?
That’s very common — especially for a first session. Feeling nervous doesn’t mean you’re doing therapy “wrong.” Your therapist will help guide the conversation and create a supportive, non-judgmental space.
Do I have to commit to ongoing therapy after the first session?
No. The first session is also a chance for you to decide whether this feels like a good fit. We’ll talk together about next steps, but there’s no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel right.
Insurance & Payment FAQs
Do you accept insurance?
Our graduate-level interns accept HUSKY insurance and out-of-pocket payment only. Intern self-pay sessions are offered at a reduced rate to increase access to care.
What if I have insurance other than HUSKY?
If you have insurance other than HUSKY, we’re happy to help explore options. This may include self-pay with an intern or a referral to a provider who accepts your insurance.
What are the self-pay rates for intern sessions?
Intern self-pay sessions are $75 per session.
Is Mieke accepting new clients?
At this time, Mieke has a waitlist. If you’re interested in working with her directly, you’re welcome to inquire about being added to the waitlist, or we can help match you with one of our interns who are currently accepting new clients.
Can I switch from an intern to Mieke later?
In some cases, this may be possible depending on availability, though it is not guaranteed. We’re always happy to talk through options and help you decide what feels like the best fit.
